Inside Baseball: Dodger Stadium

Baseball, hot dogs, and…red oak salad? It’s true, there is a lot to eat at Dodger Stadium and it’s more than just your standard fare.

We had the chance to tour the stadium on Saturday night with a group of food bloggers and we were amazed at the amount of offerings for vegetarians, vegans, gluten-free eaters, and even the most discerning foodies. To get the whole scoop on food at Dodger Stadium, read our story over at Jolly Tomato.

Gluten-Free South Bay

For those who adhere to a gluten-free diet (a diet that does not contain gluten, a protein found in wheat and many other grains) dining out can be a tricky proposition. It’s easy to avoid the obvious (traditional bread products) but other food items may contain hidden gluten, such as ketchup or ice cream that may use gluten as a stabilizing agent or thickener.

Increasingly, forward-thinking South Bay restaurants are making more gluten-free options available. In many Italian restaurants, for example, gluten-free pasta is available upon request; and many sandwiches or hamburger places have made it easy to order sandwich items wrapped in lettuce rather than bread or buns. Other restaurants have gone above and beyond to create special gluten-free menus. Here are a few noteworthy ones in the South Bay:

Fresh Brothers: 2008 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Manhattan Beach and 407 N. Pacific Coast Highway, Redondo Beach. Offers a separate gluten-free menu, including gluten-free pizza crusts and vegan cheese (dairy- casein- and soy-free), as well as salads and appetizers.

Stacked: 3525 W. Carson Street (Del Amo Fashion Center), Torrance. Offers gluten-free pizza, gluten-free hamburger buns, and gluten-free beer on the menu.

P.F. Chang’s: 2041 Rosecrans Ave., El Segundo. Has a separate gluten-free menu; gluten-free foods are served on a special plate. Ask the server to bring gluten-free soy sauce to the table.

Garlic Jim’s Pizza: 1876 S. Pacific Coast Highway, Redondo Beach. Has a separate gluten-free menu with gluten-free pizzas, wings, and desserts.
