L.A. Vegan Beer and Food Fest

Ready to rock your inner vegan? The L.A. Vegan Beer and Food Fest is taking place this Saturday, May 12 on the Sunset Strip. The festival features loads of vegan food, 50 craft vegan beers, and four live bands.

What’s vegan food? Vegans avoid any food derived from animal products. So vegan food means no meat, poultry, eggs or dairy products – but plenty of fruits and vegetables as well as beans, legumes, nuts, and soy products. Vegan beer is beer that is made without any animal ingredients, additives, or processing agents. (Believe it or not, animal products are commonly used to stabilize, clarify, and filter regular beers.)

Festival tickets are $60 for VIP admission, $50 for general admission, and $25 for non-drinking. Extra bonus: If you check out our CBS Los Angeles story you’ll find a special discount of $5 off the ticket price (limited to the first 50 readers), so get those tickets now!

Wondering what to do this coming week? We’ve got some interesting tidbits to share:

Also this weekend is the Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Club Sixth Annual  Taste at the Beach festival on Sunday. This event, featuring food, a live jazz band, and silent auction, will be held at the Hermosa Beach Community Center at the corner of Pier and PCH. Tickets are $60/person. Sunday, 3pm – 7pm.

Also in Hermosa Beach, the last concert-on-the-beach of the season will take place on Sunday, August 21 near the pier. This week’s band is HelloGoodbye, a cross of indie, pop, and punk. See South Bay Events for a complete list of summer concerts. Sunday, 5:30pm – 8:30pm.

For artistic types, the South Coast Botanic Garden is offering a One-Stroke Painting Workshop to paint a design on a double-hung window using the one-stroke painting technique. The cost is $60 ($50 for members). Saturday, 10 am – 2pm.

Also at the South Coast Botanic Garden is a Flavored Vinegar Workshop using popular native Southern California plants. The $35 registration fee ($30 for members) includes materials to make a flavored vinegar to take home. Sunday, 2pm – 4:30pm.

Looking ahead to next week: On Wednesday, Whole Foods Market Redondo Beach is hosting a Taste of Back to School event. If you stop by, you’ll get to sample some great back to school produce, snacks, and kid friendly drinks. Many local vendors will be sampling some of their delicious products, including drinks and snacks. Additionally, the Kids Club will feature Krazy Ketchup. Wednesday, August 24, 11am – 3pm.

Now there’s no excuse – get out there and take advantage of all the Beach Cities have to offer!
