Halloween on the Hub

Looking for some good spooky fun for your kids this weekend? There is so much going on in the South Bay it’s hard to contain it all. Check out this list from the Daily Breeze, this list from South Bay Foodies, and this list from the Beach Reporter. You’ll find haunted houses, a flash mob, and of course a pumpkin race.

But when your kids are ready to chill out and enjoy some Halloween thrills at home, this is a great weekend for kid-oriented Halloween viewing. Throughout the weekend, HubTV (formerly Discovery Kids) will launch special Halloween-themed episodes of its regular programming. Our kids had a chance to preview some of the shows this week, so we’re confident in saying they are kid-tested with two thumbs up.

For the younger set, “My Little Pony Friendship is Magic” will premiere on Saturday morning at 7am (Pacific time). The Halloween-themed episode “Luna Eclipsed” centers on the Ponyville celebration of Nightmare Night. The celebrations are in full swing when Princess Luna comes to Ponyville determined to change her frightening public image. Both girls and boys alike (our littlest boy watched it with utter fascination) will enjoy the colorful and detailed (can we say sparkly?) animation.

For kids ages 7 and up, an all-new episode of “R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour: The Series,” will premiere on Saturday night at 2 pm (Pacific time). Frankie Jonas (“Jonas” TV series) and Kacey Rohl (“The Killing”) guest star in “Pumpkinhead,” a new Halloween-themed episode that follows three siblings as they visit a spooky pumpkin patch. The patch’s sinister farmer seems to have more tricks than treats in store for the kids in this spooky (but not TOO spooky) episode. It’ll give your tweens just the right amount of goosebump-y thrills.
